Was pretty good! Gameplay was very short because I die very quickly.
1. No Comment

2. If 7 isn't allowed I'll say 6 for fun but it was also equally fustrating because I sucked :P

3. Mobile game given current scope but controls will need changing

4. Yes decent UI, no complaints.

Here's my CC

  • Theres something about the controls/ size of the arena along with collision of the player which makes it feel a bit clunky imo.
  • There is a bug with the menu where clicking on the button doesn't change anything in the menu screen, only after navigating away.
  • Sound is quite jarring (partly a volume thing, needs a slider to make it less because it hurts my ears when I kill things.
  • Needs a "noob" mode where Red Johnny doesn't instakill you, and where spawns of non red johnnys are a bit less intense.
Developer

Yeah, the "noob Mode" s actually on the works right now :)

Also, what do you mean "No comment" Does that mean you didn't try the last one?

I'm not sure what makes it feel clunky... I will look into it.

A fun little two-minute distraction! Nothing too fancy, but does its job perfectly well.

I read through your personal notes in the devlog and I think you have a very understandable but still wrong idea about “failing”. Finishing a game in time for a jam is a huge success, no matter what position end up being! I understand that getting a low rank can be very disappointing, but that should not let you be discouraged from making games. For me, every game I made so far (solo or with my gf) has been a learning experience in one way or another. Some of them were pretty well received, others unfortunately not quite as much, but each and every one of them taught me something. A game that ranks low is not a failed game, it’s just another opportunity for learning stuff.

To answer your questions:

1 - Most of the changes you made were an improvement I think, though I also liked the old player sprite better. The added mechanics are definitely fun. Still, the game does feel somewhat similar to the old version, so I find it hard to call a significant improvement.

2 - Probably 6/10. It’s a lot of fun for a few minutes, but after that, it feels like I’ve seen everything the game has to offer. That’s okay, though! Not every game has to offer hours of gameplay. Sometimes, little time wasters like this one is all you need. Which leads me to

3 - Mobile. While I’m not sure how well the controls work, in my experience, mobile tends to be the better platform for quick little games like this one.

4 - The UI is okay. The elements all look good, but I think you could look into composition (i.e. where to place those elements) a bit more.

Honestly, though, I think the game is fine as it is! My advice: There’s no need to spend your time overpolishing it. Make more prototypes. Enter more jams. Throw noodles against the wall. See which ones stick. Turn those prototypes into fully polished games.

Keep it up!

Sure! Thank you for this detailed review. Let me just ask a few questions:

If I added more skins, content, achievements, would someone play it for longer?

Would a game "mode" WITHOUT the red guy be beneficial? And should I make an achievement to unlock other than just being unlocked from first glance?

Would the local multiplayer be better if online or is this unnecessary?

Thank you though. It is very refreshing to see a notification once in a while.

Fun game with a funny backstory.
I just played your game update and the original, I prefer the original graphics for background and player character, would be nice to have them as a skin option too (circles), the new UI looks better, by the way the options of turning music and screen shake off don't work properly I think, at least on browser.

And to answer your other questions I think it can work better on mobile as the player can guide with their finger where to go. For fun I would give it a 6.5 and it has a decent UI.
By the way I'm the other team member on the Dora-out! game entry.

thx. yeah IG changing the character design is easy.

Also, setting DO work, but for some reason they reset when you enter the menu again, so.... Yeah do your settings and never enter again until I find a solution for it.

Developer

also, the game you're working on is good.

Thanks, I was in charge of the art of the game. That's why i said so much about it in your game.

Developer(+1)

hehe, yeah, I really like your art.

I'm not much of an artist 😅

Actually the settings menu is getting reset probably because it's not programmed to load the currently saved user setting, i mean are you saving it in any variable, i mean the music and screenshake setting? If yes, you need to change the values of the input field (On/Off) in the settings scene according to the values of those variables when the settings scene load. I don't know how to do it in GDevelop, but in Godot and Unity, its possible easily, I'm sure you can find tutorial too on it!

Nice and Quick game! I love the creative story! :)

Developer

Wow, thank you so much :)

Developer

Could you rate it tho?

1- The original won't load on my work computer hehe

2- 7! err I mean 6.9!  It is fun/intense trying to avoid the red dudes and protect the burger.  It might be better if the difficulty ramped up a little slower, so the player can get into the rhythm of the game better. (kinda like in Vampire Survivors, start super easy and then gets crazy)

3- I think it could work on PC or Mobile~

4- Very clear and easy to understand, the text sound in the beginning was a bit loud.  The UI look with black/gray/white is very nice.  Also the effect on the play button is cool!

Keep it up! Please check out my metroidvania when you can :D

Thx! Will check it out soon :)

This game was fun. Definitely keep updating it and adding more skins.  You could add a one time use nuke button to clear the screen so players can get out of a jam once per run.

Thanks :) I appreciate it.
