Judge feedback

Judge feedback is anonymous and shown in a random order.

  • Fun concept and nicely designed overall. The game play feels quite constrained however, having to follow specific paths (even to backtrack; it's space, I should be able to fly straight to an object). Also, the planets appeared distorted and egg-shaped in the UI. Navigation in the window was a bit frustrating as I wanted to keep using the mouse to scroll over, but it wouldn't let me - it's not as intuitive as it should be.
  • This game kicks my butt. I think it would be beneficial if the difficulty curve wasn't so steep, and a little more effort was put into the onboarding. Otherwise, it seems like there is potential for an epic space conquest game here
  • Retribution strikes the right balance of making immoral choices feel wrong but sometimes necessary, making sure that every run creates an interesting story.
  • Some instructions on how to fight would be nice.
  • For the positive: The solar system is fun to explore and I like the random events. It feels good to see your fleet grow in size. The art-style is cohesive and I thought it was easy to see what kind of ship I was facing in combat. Constructive: Having insta-loss on fuel is a frustration that you should should rework (sacrifice a ship to get more fuel etc). That way you can keep playing but still have a penalty, more fun than starting over. Maybe highlight the lack of fuel better and what destinations around you have it. The combat is is lacking a bit. Since you can place ships wherever you want I didn't think there was much to having multiple classes and since you need to wait between placing ships it also takes away from having a big fleet. This is the area where I would polish the game more. Your itch page is great! You are smacked in the face with the play button and can jump in straight away. Maybe add some more info about resources and narrative?

Fun little resource-management strategy game The resource management system is engaging, though the visual feedback is on the same level as the legend of bum-bo and you do not want to be on the same level as the legend of bum-bo. Polish the things you have with visual and audio feedback. Maybe add some cinematic feedback like camera shakes on “bad” events and such. It could enhance the experience by not adding more design to it.

Developer

Thank you for the feedback David! There is definitely not enough audio-visual feedback in the game as of now, time to polish was very limited - and we definitely overscoped our project a bit. You named some great ideas that we will definitely look to implement in the future!

Found a bug! After mining the interface for the asteroids still had the button, clicking it again set the drain on my fuel to an infinite minus loop. Had -600 fuel when I restarted. :) (I might be wrong about why the bug occurred but it was the only interaction I did that I think could have triggered it).

Besides that, I like your creation. It seems nice, and I could easily see the potential.

Thank you for playing Johan!

Yes, there are still a few bugs in our game like the one you described, which we are working to fix :) Thanks for the nice feedback!

The overall experience is very nice! It is a bit difficult, but it's still enjoyable to play. The solar system looks cool! Although I wish there was a litte bit more uniqueness to at least some of the planets. Like clouds, a moon in orbit or something simmilar to the Rings of Saturn. But all that is just extra stuff :)

Thank you for your feedback Oliver! Happy that you enjoyed Retribution.

There's definitely room for improvement in terms of uniqueness and visual effects, we'll look into it for sure. The idea of clouds around the planets is truly awesome, thanks a lot!

kite, the, enemies, spwan jets on enemy snipers, win ;3
I liked it but I love Strategy games and Roguelite versions. We talked on the showfloor, so I assume you got it down xD

Developer

Happy to see you enjoyed our game!  (But shhh... don't share your magic formula for battles 😄)

Was very nice talking to you & thanks again for your great feedback!

I lost the first battle three times. When I did get past it, I bought three more ships, then lost the next battle. I'm beginning to suspect there's more to battles than simply putting the right ship in the right spot and watching it get shot to oblivion.

It would be nice if the pop-ups went away when you activated them (clicking "Mine" or whatever), and if they didn't appear at all when you returned to a place where the resource is already spent.

Developer

Hey Richard!

Thank you for playing our game! Yes, the combat includes movement and targeting as well, we could have done a better job at explaining this if it wasn't clear to you.

And there is definitely more player feedback to be implemented in our UI as you mentioned. We hope you still enjoyed Retribution! :)

This  started off really well although i got confused from time to time about which resource i spending / mining.  But there's some wonkiness with the randomness that can bite you - i started one game and clicked 'move' to the first area and ran out of fuel before i got there. An unwinnable round.  It would also be helpful if it would mark where you've already been / if something is already mined out.

Developer

Hey Andy. Thanks for your input on the game.
We believe you ran into a bug with the values of the resources going up/down to slowly. It makes it so that you can gain too much/too little resources from certain parts of the game. We are working on a fix for this as best as we can. If it wants to be avoided entirely, the player can wait for all values to go up/down before they make another decision.
The player feedback when a planet is already drained of resources is currently not super clear, and we are hoping to fix that until the tuesday build.
We hope you'll give the game another shot starting this monday, with the showfloor judging starting on the 1st of June. Then we'll hopefully have fixed the issues, and you can directly talk to the team if you've got any further questions!
