Other things you want to share with the players of your game.
You can explore the whole island... I don't recommend it, you'll get lost :D Follow the fireflies !

Hello folks. This is a more optimised build. Please rate on the submission build not this one... but if you were unable to play because of framerate and would like to, this build should run better. It's exactly the same but some trees and rocks might be in different places due to random seeding :D v3.1 - https://drive.google.com/file/d/18jKXFo3GpgXU4NnBs672k9Q_fQglvUqj/view?usp=sharing

Love the main character design 🙂.

Gameplay
The surroundings are nice to walk around in. The main character is fun to play with and well designed. Even more attack types would have been nice and in the end I was kind of doing button bash at the enemies, but that didn't make it less fun. The download was maybe a bit to big for some user and maybe some less votes. But the terrain was beautiful because of it I think.

Graphics
Main character is cool. Terrain is nicely designed. The atmosphere matched well. Also effects added in it are a bonus. Not boring for the eyes to look at.

Audio
I am a rock fan myself and liked the sound track 💪. Was also electrifying during the game.  Attack SFX were nice. Maybe some walking SFX in a future update.

Theme
Space control...check 🙂

Devlog
Good comprehensive devlog. The tools list also useful for readers. Videos top! Well done💪.

Overall it was a fun experience to play the game, explore the world and also listen to the music. Nice work!

haha yeah re: button mashing you can totally just stand there clicking right mouse to win, whirlwind combo OP. working more on the combat system was definitely sacrificed to put in the story elements which I think was the right call for a jam game where you ideally want people to finish :) I do want to work more on this concept at some point and combat will be way more of a focus.

Gameplay -  Massive open world considering how long you had to make the game, easy to understand controls. My only real problem was the framerate which was able to get around 30-40 on average but constantly dipped. The frame rate was likely caused by the vm though, so as I rate your game I will take that into account.

Graphics - 3D and looks brilliant. Honestly I need to ask, you definitely only worked on this during the jam? Great graphics, large map, seems too good to be true in a small jam.

Audio -  Great music and SFX. Well done!

Theme - Literally about controlling a small amount of space plus the game allows you to jump really high like theres less gravity like your on another planet in space. Well done!

Devlog - Loads of detail, lots of videos that are really long, probably the best devlog ive seen so far beating the other devlog ive seen and said this exact same thing about it. Well done!

yup only during the jam. I've got a few videos of me working on various bits of the art that I streamed during the jam. All the environment stuff is assets I only did the character, guitar, GUI, effects...

I'm pretty fast and I've gotten pretty good at planning over the jams I've done. I have a fairly developed pipeline for asset creation honed over many jams. Not to mention I worked on the project full time during the jam so probably around 100 hours over the 8 days.

I firmly believe half the battle when you're building projects with unity is knowing what assets you own and what they're good for.

This could turn into an extra Devon post ;D so I knew I had environment covered (the packs I used for the arenas were actually what made me want to do a jam just to use them) I just had to make the terrain itself which was pretty quick (like an hour or two) with the tools I have. I knew I had a heavy metal music pack with a bunch of different tracks so I didn't need to worry about the music. So I could spend a couple days on characters, a few days on systems and a couple days pulling the arenas and mechanics together.

All the hand drawn looking stuff (the UI, ravens, etc) were done on my iPad so I did most of that when I was taking a break from the PC, in bed before sleeping, etc. so I wasn't just hunched over a hot PC for endless hours.

there are also compromises... there's no player health for example and a lot of things that should have audio don't but the music covers that sin. I chose to spend time on adding the story elements with the ravens and the end sequence rather than flesh out those parts. So it's all give and take picking what's important.

This was the first jam I didn't pull an all nighter on (only 5am on the last day ;D ) so I know I did well.

First up, your screenshots were so great (character with skirt and flaming guitar?! yes please) I wanted to play it just from that. I'm deeply intrigued by the premise.

A+ graphics, sound, and theme from what I can tell in your devlog, screenshots, and the few seconds I was able to play.

Unfortunately, it was super laggy for me -- even your optimized link. The framerate was stuck at 3.00. Maybe my computer is just not capable of this.

Great idea, and I see from your devlog you put a ton of tools and resources into this!

Developer

interesting that the optimised version is still poor for you. i really need to learn more about optimisation AND find a way to test things on a machine that isnt this one :D

Submitted

Yeah, I'm not sure why. My game also ended up way more frustratingly laggy for reviewers than it ever was on any of my team's machines, so I sympathise a lot!

Oh no :-( Something is wrong here... Can't install it via Itch.io App.

Developer

I didn't even know itch had an app :D you probably just need to manually DL and unzip it. It's hosted on a google drive.

Nice work, hope you would rate my game too…

Extra words:- I found the graphics cool, but it was a little bit messy round the gameplay…

Developer(+1)

Not sure what you mean by messy, I know some people have had performance issues with it, and the combat is not great :D

I am sure that your game was amazing 😃, but in my laptop, the green glow took around my laptops screen, and it was a bit difficult to see, but other things are amazing.

Developer(+1)

yup the post processing in the first fight is a bit nuts :D that one and the one in the 3rd fight i need to tone down.

Gameplay: Wonderful!!! I loved it! The movement was so nice (The mouse sensitivity might have been a bit too sensitive)! Killing the skeletons was extremely satisfying!
(I kind of did not know what to do after I defeated the first wave of enemies and got lost)

Art: Instant Five Stars! -- It was BEAUTIFUL! -- Better than a lot of professional games! Great job and keep it up!

Audio: Spot on.

Theme: Yay, not another game that is not just a classic space game (Classic space games are good, but...)!

Devlog: I was too lazy to read it all, but Good job.

I just added your game to the text file that I store all my favorite to least favorite games in, and yours came on top as being the twentieth game I have played.

Developer(+1)

haha thanks for the nice review. there's a message when you beat the waves that says 'follow the fireflies' but you're not the only person to have missed it so it's clearly not obvious enough.

I knew that I had to "Follow the Fireflies" by reading the "Other things you want to share with the players of your game." section but I did not know where the fireflies want; so I went exploring. I truly loved the game (or what I got to experience)! -- According to my text file your game is still my favorite! Extremely good work, my friend!
