How does your game fit the theme?
Our game has you experiment with randomly spawning instruments. You are tasked to combine instruments to create a soothing rhythm, though some may cause dissonance. It's up to you to properly combine and separate instruments to make beautiful music...or not

Really cool way to manipulate the music in the game space. I would really love to learn how to program something like this, the adaptive music could be applied in so many cool ways throughout all kinds of games. Love the art style here as well, especially love the fish bass!

I really love the art style! Interesting idea to play with sound, but I didn't feel like it was very fun. Looking at the other comments it looks like you had planned more but ran into the time constraint, which I can definitely relate to.  The art brought me a lot of joy though!

I love the visuals and the sound design. The character art is superb. I hope you'll go on to revisit this and get around to your more goal-oriented vision for it!

I love the concept, but it definitely could need a clear goal.~Do give a play to my game also :)

Really nice chill experience :)

That said it lacks a things to do when you finish playing with music.

I love the concept, but it definitely could need a clear goal. Right now it's more of a sandbox playground than it is a game, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing.  It would be fun if you could somehow create the rhythm/melody yourself on the given instrument by doing interactions and that would eventually turn into a song. The tune would naturally have to follow a set pattern, but I could definitely smell some potential here.

The art and music was super good though, good job.

There definitely was a plan like you are stating. The plan was to spawn NPCs (the ones you see scattered around the map) craving particular instruments and rhythms. It would be up to you to properly line up the instruments to appease the dancers. Think Overcooked, but with music.

A very music focused game, where you can make a music from picking up and putting instrument together.

Fun part

-You can combined the part of the instrument

-you can place instrument closer or further to set the volume.

Confusing part

-unsure what instrument sound like.

-unsure how to start or what to do.

-unsure if red wave means bass instrument and white wave means treble instrument.

Suggestion to improve the game

- have a choice to turn on or off a instrument.

-  maybe give some idea on what each instrument means (ie snake flute mean flute music part)

- having a objective/goals will give this game a purpose to experiment more (example goal: put 3 instrument together)

overall, a very fun and creative way of presenting this theme. You can search up on "sound shape" if u are interested in improving the game.

Thanks for the review! I agree with a lot of the views you have stated.

As i've stated in another response, the initial plan was to curtail particular instruments/rhythms to the NPCs that you see scattered around. We'd have them randomly spawn and request instruments or song types that you then had to accommodate by moving instruments around.

I agree that having the option to turn off instruments would be a nice addition.

It's funny that you bring up Sound Shapes. That game was part of what sparked this idea!

To make a long story short; we just ran out of time. This rendition of our idea was slapped together in the final hour and a half as I wanted to show off our instrument pairings to go with the theme. I believe this is a novel and interesting idea. I plan to rework the code to make it fit more of a proper game with set goals and rankings to beat once the game jam voting session is over.

Same for my side, my main issue is getting the flocking work nicely but in the end, time ran out and had to cut a lot of features ( wanted a shooting feature and add a bee boss). Sadly time didn't allow us to do that, so we ended up focus on getting the game to be playable.

Nice, rare to see someone who knew about this game.
Don't worry, your game concept is interesting and fresh, just need extra time to polish the rhythm system, as your game relied heavily on "behind the scene" side (beats, sound, timing) for your game to work.

All the best to your future improvement too, I will be improving my code and fixing the game after this voting (especially those small bees).

Neat interpretation of the theme. I couldn't exactly tell what I was doing so I ended up placing instruments randomly around the map. The lack of visual feedback for each decision makes it difficult to tell whether or not I was playing properly. Presentation was clean, the characters are very expressive and the music is unique and works well with the game. Good job!
