Good concept, but could be way more fun with ANY two-piece or three-piece combo!

Let the player decide if that's a good idea for their strategy  hah

Could be crazy, fun, imaginative chess variant

~25 years playing chess. Keep up the good work !

Solid concept, with a bit more polish it could have been a lot of fun. I think you'd need to implement some sort of AI, which can be difficult. You may have been able to use fairy stockfish for this

I liked the game, very impressive for 48 hours. I hope to see a more polished version in the future as I would gladly play this with a friend.

More types of merges would be interesting to see.

The camera perspective and voxels made it hard to see which piece was what.

Developer

Thanks for playing!
I think especially merges with the pawn could be a future improvement as you say.

I personally think what made it hard is that the figures have a specific shader which, as of now, doesn't support shadows on the object which makes it very very hard to see and that's basically the reason we had to add the extra text in the top right corner.

Well, I wished i could turn around the camera, for me at least it was kinda hard to know which piece is what, but still nice concept, and even there is some strategy when you merge pieces, because you lose one unit in exchange of making one more powerful. If you further develop this game, you should add "En Passant" (check in google if you don't know) and castling move. And maybe you could unmerge pieces, and diferent types of merges, but still nice game.

Also maybe you should check the game I have collaborated on: https://itch.io/jam/gmtk-2021/rate/1084061 whenever you can 👍

Thank you for all your interesing idea. If we keep working on this, I think we would probably take some of those ideas into account. The unmerging idea already came while playing but was not being done because of the time constraints and the already pretty bad code base. I think I'll personally take a little break from the jam but I'll try to play your game because of the critical and kind feedback.

Interesting concept. It took about half a game before I realized which pieces could be connected. And I noticed a bug where I merged the white rook and bishop, then the black rook and bishop next turn, but the model for the black rook turned white.

Developer

Thanks for the kind feedback. The mergable pieces are now explained on the main page of this game. We actually found the bug like 30 mins before release but it's only a visual bug and we were already pretty exhausted, that's why we cared less for this bug, though in a more polished version it should be fixed.
