So cool that you made an RTS game. I am super keen to try my hand at an RTS next. I found it a bit confusing though. I think it would feel a lot cleaner if the workers maintained their tasks. Then you could destroy the resource nodes quickly and this would create the need for the mining facilities to be built more and more as your workers have to travel further and further out.

Also found the building placement system a little confusing because I wasn't aware that I was in "building placement mode" at times and wondered why I couldn't select anything.

But really cool, good job!

Thanks! I couldn't get the workers to stay at their tasks for the life of me. After spending about a whole day on trying to get it working, I just gave up. Now that I'm not on a timer I should get them sorted. Thanks for the feedback on the building system too!

I love the idea and what is there works reasonably well...
Minions need to stick with a job more when set on it, and also it kept freezing, seemingly more-so as the game progressed but a nice idea just needing a bit more polish...
To be a full game this would have to be a tutorial level and further levels would need to present increasing obstacles, but that would be beyond the scope of a 1wk jam.

I was thinking about adding enemies and even boss-like creatures, but as you said, that's beyond what a man can do in a week

Hey, it looks like it's your first jam and you're a one person team! That's incredible given how much you've accomplished in a week! It's nice to see an RTS entry in this jam! I definitely like the look of it and the concept is simple enough to pick up quickly and play! I just think it needs some polish and refinement. There was weird performance issues where it would hang up sometimes (on a high-end machine), and also the minions didn't seem to want to stick to the same task I give them, I always had to reassign the task to them. I also wasn't too sure what was the purpose of building those resource buildings, since it seems like the minions just gather the resources in-place, they don't need to go back to a building. Anyway, a good attempt and a solid entry, just make sure to continue improving it after the game jam is done. It can make a good portfolio piece!

Thanks! It was a two-man team, though I did all the coding on my own. I've done plenty of jams before, though always in a  big team of coders, so that's why the code is somewhat.. err... minimalistic ;) Thanks for pointing out all the performance issues, and the AI glitches! I'm glad you liked it and I very much plan to continue working on it in the coming months

This was definitely a good one! Out of the games in this jam, this is the only strategy one that I've played so far, which was nice. I really liked the look of the little minion dudes.

I'm glad you liked it! Never coded anything strategy-like so it was definitely a challenge, but I think it's worth it for the uniqueness :)
