  • On first glance it doesn't look like much, but it is surprisingly playable and I like all the different types of blocks you added. Especially the bouncy ones haha, I had a lot of fun with those. One thing that caught me up was the player getting their head caught on things and destroying blocks at this level. I wonder if they need to be two blocks tall in a game like this?
  • On the face of it this is an impressive entry. It pulls off a seemingly endless world with biomes, enemies and a faithful (though difficult to control) 2D interpretation of Minecraft's mechanics. It feels let down by its reliance on Mode 5. Hardware sprites+tilemaps would be way more appropriate for this kind of game, allowing it to run smoother and have more detailed graphics. There are also some technical problems: The ROM header isn't patched, so the game won't run on real hardware unless you patch it yourself or skip the boot logo. The auto-save feature, while appreciated, writes to storage frequently which may lead to data loss or corruption. That said, it's clear that a lot of effort was put into everything that's here! I think a lot of the issues could be solved by working smarter, not harder!
  • Good entry! It's funny to see the Minecraft experience is 2D, with flat tiles. However, controls are a bit clunky. If character movement was by pixel instead of by tile, I think the experience would be a bit better. Also, it's weird that the game doesn't reset itself after a new random world is generated. Besides that, music and an in game tutorial would have been great for this game.
  • Nice start, but hard to know what anything is

Jam ROM submission

Ok - understood! I attached the GBA ROM file as "MYGAMENAME_jam.gba".

Terraria vibes, nice idea for a GBA game! The terrain generation is so cool and diverse. Maybe adding some texture to the blocks would be a good refinement. Great work!
