I had to look up the story on Wikipedia as I experienced a bug in level 9. There was no sound or text, but two characters were shown in the cutscene. After having read the plot, I think your interpretation is quite smart and very well-fitting to the theme - good job!
If I may add more feedback: I'd prefer a faster movement of the character (and enemies). Also, more variations of enemies or traps would make the levels more exciting. I like the idea of walking from level 1-9 and then returning from level 9-1, but you could experiment a bit more with the level design, as returning from level 2 and level 1 was not challenging even though it's the climax of the game. You could think about more walls so that the player has to think about how to reach the exit with the restricted movement, or you could add some more story, like text boxes that read that Orpheus is starting to doubt that Eurydice is still following him.
Thank you for the trying the game. Appreciate the bug report and the feedback. I went back and fixed that bug and also updated the movement speed; based on the comments, I think I can safely call that a "quality of life" adjustment. As for the level design, I was trying to keep it easier as this was a game jam and didn't want to frustrate players (well, anymore than my slow character did). With a different approach for the player's perspective, I probably would have made the return levels more difficult by adding enemies on the return trip but your suggestion for more blocks and some hesitancy in regards to the story would also work to make it more puzzle-like.
Great entry! I love a good puzzle game! I think Orpheus should move a bit quicker, however, and also one of your voiceovers did not play ( end of lvl 4, getting Eurydice scene). Awesome job nonetheless!
Glad you gave it another go! Really appreciate the feedback. Wasn't quite sure how fast to make the player move but was hoping this was closer to the sweet spot. (I honestly had it cranked up really fast when testing, which is why I didn't realize exactly how slow it was originally. To me during testing, this speed here would have still felt slow.)
