It’s a pretty good game with huge potential, but it requires some more polish in my opinion. Like:

  • a lot of meshes do not have colliders and you can walk through them
  • the cubes feel like they are very light and you can push even huge cubes around (making steps from cubes and platforming on them is annoying and does not feel right)
  • the player character slides on slopes (even stairs) by itself
  • the volume felt quiet (I initially thought there was no audio but the wand SFX), but the game could also use a bit more work on sound design

Other than that, it’s a fun idea and could be a good candidate for a full release. I had fun playing it for some time. :)

Thanks for the feedback, we are aware now about many of the problems and details to fix about the game, and we will be fixing them for an upcoming version after the jam ends. We are happy you enjoyed and had fun playing the game.

Kind of reminded me of Merlin, another game in this jam (2D), where you are also a wizard who scales boxes to size to solve all manner of problems, check it out if you haven't yet, might be interesting for you.

These were well constructed puzzles that didn't forget the vertical dimension, with cool mechanics that worked pretty well, all things considered. The stylized graphics all meshed with each other really well, that look immediately stood out as looking quite handsome indeed. I agree with the other comments saying it was a bit too dark though.

My main critique point would be that a little bit of jank in the movement made the bits of platforming a tad more frustrating than they needed to be. I think it's hard to straddle both the platformer and puzzler genres well, better to choose one to lean more into and in your case, I'd say that's the puzzling, so if the player has figured out the solution, in my opinion, making the jumps to execute it should be pretty simple and forgiving. Just my two cents.

All in all, impressive work! Thanks for the game!

It was surprising for me not finding more games similar in concept to ours, but now that you said that I'll totally check out Merlin.

Glad you liked the graphics and the mechanics! We totally should have aproached the brightness issue, but development pace started to increase exponentially in the last week and we didnt even noticed this problem until couple days before the deadline, so we had to go with it.

Its also true that trying to reach a good gameplay, mechanics and a nice feeling for the player simultaneously in two different "subgenres" (platforming and puzzle) is probably harder than focusing on just one. We tried to keep a good balance between both styles but this kind of dualities seem hard to engage in a jam. (at least for me, its actually my first one)

Thanks so much for the review and for playing, well be taking everyting into account!:)

Cool idea! I thought the staff's mechanics were quite unique and make for some interesting gameplay. The visuals were nice, but maybe a little too dark. I don't have much feedback that wasn't already stated by the other comment. I'd love to see this idea iterated on and added to. Good job!

Developer

Yeah, we'll go on upgrading our game probably including a brightness setting. Thanks for the feedback, and for playing!:)

Thanks for the feedback, we are waiting to update the game after the jam ends with better quality of life features such as improved visibility, ilumination, bug fixes, etc.

But we are working for it and will be patched after it ends 👍.

I had a good time with your game! I liked the main mechanic with the staff, I liked how you can see a little preview underneath the object you are holding, I liked that you could swap between modes without having to let go of the object - those things matter!

Aside from a few minor collision issues the moving and scaling also worked suprisingly well considering that you can scale freely wherever you want.

I also thought the visuals were very good, although the whole game was very dark (at least on my end). It also was not always entirely clear to me what I had to do, maybe you could have highlighted important spots a bit more, because the pressure plates blended in with the rest a bit, especially in the dim lighting.

Those are only minor critiques though, overall you did a great job, well done! :)
