What a fun game! Honestly having a game like this when I was younger would've made learning to type way more fun and engaging, as it's pretty hard to play if you're searching around the keyboard for each individual letter to type.

The mechanic that turned you red to kill the enemies was also just very satisfying and a great thing to add.

Not sure how high this is comparatively, but my personal best was 12342.

Great job!

Thanks for playing! I'm really glad you enjoyed it. My personal highest score hasn't even gone above 10,000, so you're better than me at my own game!

This is fun, I played it a few times without paying attention to the score and trying to clear it as many times as possible, kind of like a wordless, frantic typing game.

Playing it trying to get a high score resulted in a slower, more strategic gameplay - more focused on dodging and waiting, saving clears and dashes as much as possible.

I feel like the game could be improved a bit by making the letter distribution a bit less random (maybe instead of positioning randomly the letters one by one, positioning by group of 3 to 5 in predetermined patterns?), and less frequent in the top-right corner where the enemies spawn.

But it was still overall a fun time!

Thanks for the feedback! I do think having more thought out letter placements would probably help. I might go back and change it later.

Simple and strangely addictive game, that makes you want to play again and again to beat your best score. I found that I could rack up higher scores by moving to a letter only when I needed to, so my aim wasn't to get all of the letters, but instead just to move out of harms way. This is because the scoring system is based solely on time from what I can tell.

I didn't experience the bugs listed, but I'm not sure the curly braces work at all as I wasn't able to destroy enemies after moving to the curly braces. I tried a few times.

1215 was my highest score, which may not be all that high compared to what others probably got.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback. I totally forgot to put in the tutorial, but the score also gets increased by defeating enemies. Also the way the braces work isn't that you get the invincibility after moving to them, it's while you're moving to them and you're red. I was afraid that might not be clear. But thanks for playing!

Interesting idea for a game!

To make it even better, I'd suggest to have some words instead of the whole alphabet in the level. This way you could even add some lore and make the actions more "meaningful".

I myself don't know the position of all the letters on my keyboard by heart, so I ended up dividing my attention between looking at the screen (with the enemies approaching fast) and looking at my keyboard, which made the game harder than intended, I suppose..

Great game! Congratulations!

That word thing is an interesting idea, I might have to think about working that in. I'm sorry I can't play your game, I just can't get the file to work. It looks really cool though. Thanks for playing!

I'm sorry that the file is not working. Just to know, what is your OS? Windows, linux, Mac...

The file runs on windows only, but after the jam I'll upload Mac and Linux versions, if you'd like to give it a try then :)

Developer

I actually have a windows but it doesn't work. I was able to get A Cat Named ASCII to work, but your game just wont open and I can't figure out why.

Hmm, that is strange... Does your windows happen to be a 32-bit version? I've compiled for windows with 64-bit. After the jam I may upload a 32-bit version if this is the case ;)
