Did your team create most/all of the graphics yourselves?
Yes, most of the graphics are procedurally generated by the game itself.
Did your team create most of/all the audio yourselves?
Most of the sound effects made with Bfxr. Which I guess counts as a Yes.
How did you incorporate the theme "INSIDE OUT"?
I was inspired by the example idea "an unusual dress up game" and thought "Unusual art with Unusual gameplay" because I really had a hard time coming up with a good idea that fit the theme better. In the end I mostly did the Unusual art part of it, if you want more well the Tears go from the Inside to the Outside, I also have a variable in the code called InsideOut, and the game icon changes to reflect what Joe's eye is doing in game. I wouldn't be surprised if I'd be in dead last for Theme this year.

My feedback for Yo Joe!:
What your game does well:
The art is vibrant, and takes the necessary precautions for its flashy behavior. It's also thanks to the colors that players can identify the stains they have to watch out for.
The game states what the controls are from the beginning, and so I had no problem figuring out what to do or what the goal was.
What your game doesn't do well:
There isn't much execution of the jam theme found. More can be done with the narrative of tears coming out to tie it to the gameplay. Right now all the player does is revolve the tears, but they have no part in where the tears appear or what goes on inside (before they come out).
Areas of Opportunity:
With the stains you have a great common enemy, but as the game goes on the gameplay becomes repetitive. I think there's a great opportunity to introduce stains with different behaviors/movements.
I hope this feedback helps!
Thanks, I think this is the first time I've heard someone give me feedback talking about my use of the jam theme! I realized pretty early on that there was a pretty weak connection between the game idea I had and the theme, but I genuinely couldn't come up with anything better that sounded like it could be fun, so I just stuck with the idea I had.
No problem. As a game though, you did a pretty good job. DM me on Discord @salsero if you ever wanna talk games.
Am I dreaming? Do I see nothing?
Is it just useless to speak my words?
Yo Joe! Cool game, I love all the pretty colors and shapes flying around. Personally, I found the sounds pretty annoying because It just kept repeating at the same tone really alot. But that's the only complaint I'd had other then being absolutely dumbfounded with how to play at first. Really original and great take. 9/10
Yeah, I wanted to have some variety by changing the pitch of the audio, but pygame can't really do that on its own. I did try to implement it before giving up.
Really nice entry, i really liked the retro sounds they really fit the vibe of the Game. But it was really confusing at first, i am not even sure i fuly understand it even after playing it xDD
I think it's a really interesting game! It was a bit hard to play, there wasn't a lot of feedback signaling the release of the tears, so I didn't really understand how I could control that, but the visual effects added so much for me! I especially like the '3D' effect that increases when a meteor (?) gets into the black field. Maybe a little more UI with info about your health or something like progression, and making the UI stand out a little more would improve it. Well done!
Black field? That's Joe!
Very neat concept and well done. Well done on the theme. Good job!
