🇬🇧 As an organizer of the Cthulhu Dark Italia Jam 2020, I guess I have to set a good example, so...

I started writing notes for this mystery for Cthulhu Dark on June 8, 2018. I am absolutely certain because I created a repository on GitHub, in which I started writing the first notes. But that’s not all; if I open my Moleskine with the game design notes, I find three notes about this mystery: the first, long, dated June 9, 2018; the second and third, very short, dated February 8 and May 5, 2019.

The basic idea is this: in Cremona in 2018, a young violinist with a multifaceted past suddenly disappears in mysterious circumstances. Her closest friends, all people who love her, begin to look for her until they reveal where the creeping horror is hidden. It is a mystery which speaks of art and personal relationships.

🇮🇹 Come organizzatore della Cthulhu Dark Italia Jam 2020 mi sa che mi tocca dare il buon esempio, quindi…

Ho cominciato a scrivere appunti per questo mistero per Cthulhu Dark l’8 giugno del 2018. Ne ho la certezza assoluta perché avevo creato un repository su GitHub, nel quale mi sono messo a scrivere i primi appunti. Ma non solo; se apro la mia Moleskine con gli appunti di game design, trovo tre annotazioni inerenti questo mistero: la prima, lunga, datata 9 giugno 2018; la seconda e la terza, brevissime, datate 8 febbraio e 5 maggio 2019.

L’idea, di base è questa: nella Cremona del 2018, una giovane violinista dal passato sfaccettato sparisce all’improvviso in circostanze misteriose. I suoi amici più stretti, tutte persone che la amano, cominciano a cercarla, fino a svelare dove si cela l’orrore strisciante. È un mistero che parla di arte e di relazioni personali.

Vediamo se riuscirò a finire questo mistero. Fatemi un in bocca al lupo. 😉

🇬🇧 This jam started a little slow for me. First, I had to manage the end of Mapemounde 2020; then, my old PC broke (hopefully I’ll be able to recover some data not saved elsewhere...). Now, I’m back at work and, in two tranches, I’ve reread all the old notes, both those saved on GitHub and those noted on my faithful Moleskine.

What can I say? I think I have some good material to start from, although I have some doubts but, before I start writing again, I’ll reread the Director’s part of Cthulhu Dark’s manual, to make sure I have the right form of mind.

🇮🇹 Questa jam, per me, è iniziata un po’ a rilento. Prima, ho dovuto gestire la fine della Mapemounde 2020; poi, mi si è rotto il vecchio PC (speriamo che riesca a recuperare un po’ di dati non salvati altrove…). Adesso, mi sono rimesso sotto e, in due tranche, ho riletto tutti i vecchi appunti, sia quelli salvati su GitHub sia quelli annotati sulla mia fedele Moleskine.

Che dire? Credo di avere del buon materiale dal quale partire, anche se ho qualche dubbio ma, prima di rimettermi a scrivere, rileggerò la parte del Regista sul manuale di Cthulhu Dark, per essere sicuro di avere la giusta forma mentis.

🇬🇧 It is no secret to anyone if I say that Sonata purpurea is clearly inspired by Lovecraftian tales in which music is dominant and becomes a vehicle for cosmic horror. One of the most beautiful and emblematic stories in the entire cycle of the Cthulhu Mythos, according to many, is The Music of Erich Zann (1922), which is the main inspiration of my mystery.

Today, not even to do it on purpose, I came across an article that Riccardo Gallori wrote for “Cercatori di Atlantide”, in which he discusses the relationship and inspirations that the Cthulhu Mythos have provided to the world of music (and vice versa?). 🇮🇹 Non sarà un segreto per nessuno se dico che Sonata purpurea è palesemente ispirato ai racconti lovecraftiani in cui la musica la fa da padrona e diventa veicolo per l’orrore cosmico. Uno dei racconti più belli e più emblematici di tutto il ciclo dei Miti di Cthulhu, a detta di molti, è proprio La musica di Erich Zann (1922), che è l’ispirazione principale del mio mistero.

Oggi, neanche a farlo apposta, mi sono imbattuto in un articolo che Riccardo Gallori ha scritto per “Cercatori di Atlantide”, nel quale si affrontano il rapporto e le ispirazioni che i Miti di Cthulhu hanno fornito al mondo della musica (e viceversa?). 🇬🇧 I’ve finished reviewing the Director’s section. I know I’m terribly late in writing this mystery. The fact that I also have to go to a barbecue today doesn’t help, but I trust the notes I have already taken.

The next step will be to write down places and characters, and to start creating the flow of the mystery as I expect it to be played in an "ideal" game. Then I will move on to the progressive rewriting of the mystery, as explained in the manual.

🇮🇹 Ho terminato la rilettura della sezione del Regista. So che sono in terribile ritardo per la scrittura di questo mistero. Il fatto che oggi debba anche andare a una grigliata non aiuta, ma confido negli appunti che ho già preso.

Il prossimo passo sarà quello di annotare luoghi e personaggi, e di cominciare a creare il flusso del mistero come mi aspetto che venga giocato in una partita “ideale”. Poi passerò alla riscrittura progressiva del mistero, come spiegato dal manuale.

🇬🇧 Last night I tried to line up the places and faces of mystery. I came within walking distance of the final horror. Apparently, I’ll have to do a tour de force this morning to finish in time, but I’m also hopeful.

🇮🇹 Ieri notte ho cercato di mettere in fila i luoghi e i volti del mistero. Sono arrivato a pochi passi dall’orrore finale. A quanto pare, stamattina dovrò fare un tour de force per finire in tempo, ma sono anche speranzoso.
