Loved unlocking new words to make new spells with. Your system here is intuitive and fun to see the results of. I can see that main room being the "test room" for a future release (although I wouldn't want to walk all the way there after updating my spells)
I put everything into Wisdom, and at some point my spells got slower, but I attributed this to some spell effects changing the cooldown (I wouldn't know, I can't read!).
The boss really escalated the challenge, so I'd love to see more spells added to combat them. Awesome!
The idea about translating old texts and crafting your own spells is amazing. Escape-key was a bit unfortunate choice for exiting menus and exiting the game as I accidentally closed the game. Also some of the menu styles felt kinda out of place. Otherwise the game ran smoothly and the gameplay loop is fun. Well done!
Really great gameplay, like I was saying on the live stream it would be great that if you continue this if you get an artist just to bring all the visual identity together. A lot of fun to play!
Is there a recording of your live stream? I couldn’t find your streaming link anywhere :(
Yeah you can find it here, Forbidden Whispers is shown at 1:20:28
Thank you!
I tried running your game on Linux with Wine but unfortunately couldn’t start it due to the following error:
Application could not be started, or no application associated with the specified file. ShellExecuteEx failed: File not found.
Sorry about that!
On a side note, you can use a zip archive with the 7-Zip program to pack the file to make it smaller.
Shoot, I'm sorry about that! I'll look into that and see if I can figure out why that's happening, I'm not 100% on why that one is.
I'll keep the ZIP archive in mind, that's a super good call on this.
Edit - I tried to export the version at the end of the jam for Linux, honestly not 100% sure if it works offhand. Theoretically should work but don't have a great way to test it at the moment.
Thank you for the Linux build, it definitely works!
I didn’t manage to get through the first boss, this is a bit hard genre for me, but it really looks like a very interesting experience, I’m amazed that you managed to do it all in a two weeks time!
The translation mechanic is pretty interesting and the music is great too. Thank you for this game!
