  • True to its aesthethic, playing the game was horror. Certainly the most creative for doing a darker spin on the theme. And with three weapon types, I think it's fair to say this deserves the highest gameplay rating for the jam. However, the balance between those three weapon types seems not quite right. The King doesn't seem to deal enough damage to make up for how slow it shoots which just doesn't seem like a worthwhile risk with monster surrounding you. The Queen... is perfectly fine, actually. How much her range was shortened feels fair for the wider coverage. The Jack despite being the supposed weakest and default weapon, might actually be the most versatile just from how far it can travel and how much you can spam it. It's clear that I'm supposed to be incentivised to switch weapons and when using a matching weapon, how fast you can dispatch of a monster is really satisfying however it's hard to motivate myself to try and switch when in the interface only the name is displayed instead of clearer telegraphing like a selection graphic on the selected weapon. The actual projectiles themselves are hard to quickly differentiate in colour. Ignoring that however, I think this game is possible to be beat with just the default 3 hearts with strategic weapon switching, though that's not an easy task. And going back to spamming, bold of me to want an already hard game be harder but the amount of ammo you get makes it very easy to just spam without worrying too much about switching. So some tweaking on how much you have by default/how much you get from killing could be due.

This game is hard for me to get into, and the azerty layout didn't help. I couldn't get past the shooting enemies.

Too bad, I really liked the environments (aside from the white corner at the shop) and how the game used the theme as its opening.

Very nice game here. The core gameplay takes some getting used to, as it controls similarly to your typical shooter game, except with a mix of 2d platforming. The level takes quite a notable amount of patience and determination to win through, since the sole item and three health points you initially start out with aren't enough to make at least a decent first attempt as you'll most likely get wrecked really badly. Not to mention that everytime you die, you restart the level all the way down from the bottom. That can leave a really bad first impression for the game, although the point seemingly is to get yourself adapted to the level with the right items and enough health points to win. However since I had the patience it takes to finish the game overall this experience gradually went from frustrating and confusing to...well, pretty damn fun. I just wish the game didn't have to leave you with such limiting stats on the first attempt, but the core gameplay is very fun nontheless.

The music sounds nice, but visuals could some some more refinement, but overall this game was really solid, nice job.

Nice game, cool idea with the card suites but in my opinion the controls were difficult to get into and it wasn't very obvious as to which colours were which suits. Would have been better to name them red, yellow, green and blue instead of diamonds, hearts, clubs and spades. The time I had to endure in order to be able to simply win was too much for me. Especially since if you die there are no checkpoints from what I've found and you have to start from the very bottom once again. Solid attempt nonetheless.

I like it! The core gameplay is fun and simple and the aesthetic reminds me of old ZX Spectrum games. Music is also quite nice.

I did encounter a few weird bugs, like the character moving on tis own in the shop, but apart from that it was fun!

Very cool game here, reminiscent of Downwell.

I think the core gameplay is creative but needs refinement, and I encountered a crash where I bought the card I already had equipped by default.

Music is good, art feels a bit unrefined in places but I enjoy the levels tileset and general look.

Definitely keen to keep trying to see whats at the top of this one.
