aww I love my little potato dood. Super smooth voice on him, felt very approachable and friendly, up until him turning all evil and attacking me... No jk, but somehow that's what it felt like would happen and I'm glad he's just... nice. And I swear you even thought I'd think that based of the first few lines of his final dialogue.
But the game was super well tutorialised, I was very impressed when I reached a spot I had to jump across early in the game (but couldn't), then his voice line redirected me down to the path. And how after getting the bridge, a bunch of platforms disappeared making the return require the use of bridges. I think the laser could've used some similar treatment, it was a tad finnicky building a bunch of bridges to reach it, and was hoping for some awesome mobility upgrade to aid with getting back, but actually got a laser to kill guys I hadn't noticed prior. I wonder if the combat part could've instead been some other mobility based skill, because I think the mobility aspect is where your game really shines!
And one thing I noticed which I suppose is a bug, but you can build infinitely by connecting a bridge to potato dood's face. Otherwise had no issues, and even managed to do it all zero deaths! You did great building this mini metroidvania, and in 3D nonetheless, which reminds me hot damn the shader on those powerups was super cool! The wireframe that changed colour as you got closer looked amazing. Awesome game, the potato dood made for a memorable little experience!
Damn! This is a really good game. I mean seriously good. If I bought this on steam I would be very happy. Brilliant concept, excellent voice acting. I loved the particle effects and all the floating, spinning symbols, (how did you do those by the way?).
I played all the way through and only had one or two issues with gameplay. Mainly me being rubbish at the gravity well tool! Other than that I got into a really neat little flow state with the bridge builder and I felt like I wasn't alone, thanks to my little floating buddy, so top notch theme usage.
I would really love to see more from you. This game felt perfectly self contained so maybe another project which utilised a similar approach would be cool. Expanding on this core idea.
The level design was textbook! As in you used things we have been taught in our level design module at uni. Leading lines and great use of verticality lead me through the whole experience seamlessly. I was never lost but I also had a sense of awe and exploration throughout. I think people should give you some excellent feedback on this project.
The story telling worked really well here. The slow build and the gradual introduction of new gameplay mechanics, accompanied by story beats was beautiful. I was engaged from start to finish. I would say a little adjustment on the check points might be good as I did find myself a little further from my point of death than I would have liked at times. Other than that it was awesome!
One last thing is that I felt your use of particle effects, mixed with sound effects, (and screen shake) really sold the power of the lightening. You managed to make so relatively simple visual elements work exceptionally well. Congratulations! Great work, and I can't wait to see what you come up with next.
Wow, lots of very kind words! Thank you for taking the time to share about your experience. Thoughtful comments like this really mean a lot.
I'm very glad you enjoyed the game so much! Our team took a lot of pride in the experience we crafted. We didn't have time to refine all of the design of all the different parts of the game. But there were a few aspects that we put a lot of time and attention into, and those things seemed to help the game shine. It makes me happy to hear about what parts were meaningful to you.
I'm not sure what comes next, but I'd like to continue making exploration games like this. Feel free to follow me or my teammates if you want to see what we do next. More game jams and other projects coming soon!
Awesome job! The environments look really full, the story is interesting, the music is nice, the voice over really adds to the immersion, I really enjoyed playing!
Very well done, an extremely nice change of pace from a lot of the other games submitted. I enjoyed myself all the way through
Great game! Relaxing and fun! I love the idea of restoring abilities. Really liked my flying friend. Well made animations. Music is really cool, but sometimes it wasn't playing. I really enjoyed building bridges and attacking by light. Speaking of lighting, you could add some limitations for using it. It's great that you made checkpoints. 3D models are nice. Overall, nice game!
really nice music and sound is really good , nice graphics alsoo , good job !
Nice story and great music! There were silent times without music, when I could have enjoyed the same song just looping over and over again. :)
Little bit long introduction into the story, anyhow I enjoyed playing it! :)
