How does the game fit the theme?
Risk is a core mechanic of the game. The player has to balance risk vs. reward in their level selection. If a risk doesn't pay off, the run will end terribly for the player.
What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
The SFX are from Pixabay, and I based my player code off of Brackey's Proto Controller

I did not expect a jumpscare (horrors are too scary for me), good work!
"Pfft, how scary could a cat PNG even be?" Famous last words...
Anyways, this game was fun! There were a couple things that felt a bit unfair/buggy (shooting the tommy gun just completely depleted my ammo from 30 to zero in less than a second, the cat couldn't catch me even though it was right on top of me, and boxes can fly apparently), but I didn't really mind for the most part because going through levels being absolutely terrified of death via carboard box was just a hysterical experience. Great concept!
Man the amount of times I got jump scared by boxes was hilarious, I liked the concept and how you incorporated risk into your game, having all these random level choices with varying difficulty. The shotgun is a bit weird sometimes though, like with the knock back mechanic, I wasn't able to use it to climb higher places as much (like in the tutorial). Overall very good game, congrats!
Yeah the shotgun boost mechanic is kind of poorly done. It has a tendency to give more horizontal momentum than vertical momentum which makes using it as intended kind of difficult. There’s also a bug with the code that checks if you’re pointing it at the ground that makes it so that you also get the vertical boost if you’re aiming it at the ceiling.
Glad you enjoyed it tho.
My man, how many levels are there? I swear I died like 6 times with few runs that went 2-3 lvls and I think I haven't seen a single repeating level!
I like the concept of being thrown into a really hard challenge if you decide to risk it for greater reward.
Glad you enjoyed it! There are five levels with the plain “Brown” theme, as well as two levels for each of the special themes (Yellow, Big, Locked/Blue, Dark, Lead, and Red/Risk).
Impressive work for a solo project, interesting ideas in there!
