I enjoyed the crashing through the door running and gunning feel, and the art was really well done, you have a great doom vibe going! As others have said making the enemies flash or grunt when taking damage would help give your combat that little extra juice, but definitely an enjoyable game. Nice Work!

I like the effort put into this and the designs of the enemies. The only thing is that I wasn't sure if I was damaging the enemy or not until they died.

Some visual feedback when hitting enemies would have been a nice touch. Otherwise, good job!

Was a little difficult for me , maybe just needs some more feedback from the enemies. Door animation is sick and I really like the art style!

The excitement of entering a new room and the door animation enhancing the hype is fantastic. Great work on creating an engaging and enjoyable game!

Unfortunately, I didn’t figure out how to activate the teleport, but I honestly cleared all the rooms of monsters (I admit, my brain was a little broken trying to understand the level design).

It was disappointing that I found 20 shotgun shells, but did not find the shotgun itself. But it was fun. The style has a Duke Nukem 3D atmosphere.

Developer

Glad you liked it.
To activate the portal you have to keep standing on it (rotating red particles show the progress)
Finding weapons is indeed a bit rare (too rare in hindsight). They spawn in at most 1 room (not guaranteed as the level are randomly generated).
In later stages the chance to find the room increases (due to more rooms being generated).

Super fun game! I loved the excitement of going into a new room, the door entering animation really added to the hype. I also really liked the visual style of the game. I'm not sure if I missed it, but I couldn't find the machine gun or the shotgun, I also couldn't find big boss creature you have in your screenshots. Great work!

Developer

Thanks!
The big enemy only spawns in 1 type of room. I guess in your run this room wasn't generated.
The room to find the weapons is indeed a bit too rare. There is at most 1 in every stage (and not guaranteed due to the procedural generation).

I really liked this game! Very smooth and satisfying to shoot at things. The audio in general had a nice weight to it when you activated doors or fired.

A couple of nits! I would maybe like to move faster and jump higher? It isn't necessary, but I found that when there were no enemies, it took a bit to traverse areas. I may not have found the Shotgun or Machine Gun, because I wasn't able to change guns to utilize any ammo I found.

Developer (1 edit)

Glad you liked the audio.
Faster movement would indeed have sped up the game a bit (and maybe also give it a bit more of a boomer shooter feeling).
You have to find the weapon room for the guns. It's not generated that often though, so it might not be there in the first stage.

The combat is okay but the music gets repetitive after a while. Not bad tho

Developer

Which part of the combat was lacking?
As for the music I totally agree. I wish we could have made it longer to get rid of the repetition, but we didn't have enough time.

Submitted

I feel like the combat could've been a little better if there was more indication that the enemy was hit by the player like a hit flash and/or a sound that plays when the enemy was hit

Developer

Bullet impact particles and sounds were indeed on the list, but unfortunately didn't make it in due to lack of time.
