Reading the rules (in docs.zip) is essential. Press a to start the game. On each turn, click to plan moves (up to 2 per turn, adjacent or diagonal), Shift-click to place walls (up to 3 per turn), and Ctrl-click to schedule attacks (up to 3 per turn, adjacent or diagonal to one of your moves).

My strategy: if the CPU player moves to the back rank. Build 3 walls in front of them on rank 2. That limits their movement options and you can try to box them in.

I had some trouble with the results display between rounds. If I pressed q a to start a new round, the second and subsequent results displays showed the outcome of the first round again. Also, it seemed like the CPU player got a free move at the start, when the game was restarted like that. I took to restarting the program so each round would begin fresh.

I think the idea is interesting. For a long time the "who goes first" approach to board games has created an uneven start. I played a few rounds with myself and may need to put a bit more time in to truly get the hang of it. The graphics are abstract but colorful presentation is clean.
