A painfully striking, deeply emotive, and precisely forceful work of fan-ness and "fan games". Yume Nikki is a living and dynamic artifact of literature, comics, animation, and the proto-fandom. Because madotsuki's closet is composed with such care and sagely knowledge of its material, it becomes a treatise on the game, the media object, and how one's experience sometimes shape and morph around art, expanding well outside its modest and generous playtime. This game is a humble and dynamic document of the ways we've come to and continue to live with the media object as a fixture in our daily lives. My only complaint is that I wish it was somehow not about Yume Nikki because I want everyone to play.
