This review is of the Beta v3.9 on 10-8-21.
I was highly excited for this, equally enthralled in the bits that did work, and equally disappointed in the 80% of the app that just didn't work at all.
My first problem is that I could only accurately map a slightly larger area than my normal guardian. When I tried to expand it further everything seemed great to begin with, but by the time I got back to the starting wall, it was clear that the original walls were off from where I started by about half a foot. That's a bit too much for me to feel comfortable moving about. The original blocked-off furniture had also shifted meaning I would keep banging my toes into everything!
I repeated that process 3 times before I gave up and remapped just the single room, which was only an improvement on the Oculus guardian because it included furniture blocks.
However, even those furniture blocks were not always blocked off properly in the different games resulting in me smacking my couch and stepping on my carpet by the door with shoes and tripping.
I found a common error was that the furniture blocks would sink a couple of feet into the floor!
As for the mini-games, some worked and were fun, some straight-up wouldn't even launch and just said error. When they worked. I can't quite recall the names of the mini-games at this point, but the 2 that worked best were the one where your playspace turns into a spaceship that you have to defend, and the second was one where your hand was mapped to a tiny space ship in front of you and you flew around battling other ships. There was another one where you had to throw a ball across the room to get it into a goal, but being that my playspace was just a single room there wasn't a lot of entertainment in that one.
So, knowing that this is a Beta, I have every bit of hope that things will be ironed out for the future. It really is a spectacular concept and when it worked it was really cool. It's just that those were fleeting moments. I'll give it some time and updates and try again. Then hopefully I'll be able to improve this review.
Being a Beta I normally wouldn't leave a review, but as I paid for access to this one I do feel it is warranted so others give this app time to improve before investing as this is the single most glitchy app I have yet experienced on the quest 2 out of at least 160. Considering the state this should have just been a free demo.
