Charming little game.  Not very challenging, though I don't think it was supposed to be.  I was confused at diversion the beginning because usually in these games you have to use items specifically, so I kept trying to click Use -> Paintbrush.  Maybe if the cursor changed to show that an item was being used?  Also, it would be nice if there the cursor changed, or gave some other feedback to show that you are trying to something that you can't do, rather than just nothing happening when I click the button.  But a nice little diversion :)
