A downloadable game for Windows and macOS.

This game ended up being an unexpected gem from my RJE bundle purchase.  I'm a fan of tactics-likes in general, and it scratched that itch, but what really sold it for me was the rich storyline and worldbuilding depth.

Presentation is super solid, and I found myself not even missing the usual Tactics-like things that it omits (e.g. equipment, class development) due to the unique way it handles story branching and rewinding, with a wide variety of adventures and a constantly rotating supporting cast.  That cuts out a lot of the micromanagement and makes the game feel streamlined rather than repetitive.  The main characters largely have a fun and dynamic power set with nice tweaks in their customization options (Brasidas is the only one that feels flat for me, as he's got near-zero battlefield control, but at least he makes a solid damage sponge), and often the missions are designed to make the side characters' skills vital, which gets you attached to the whole crew.

There are a few frustrations, but overall, not enough to knock my rating down in the face of the fun core experience.  The isometric maps are sometimes fiddly, with no good camera angles to reach certain spots (it might help to have a high camera/low camera option to change the view angle further).  The one tactical omission that consistently frustrated me was the inability to set character facing at end of turn, especially while defending.  For a game that cares so much about facing, with flanking and backstab multipliers, it's a strange choice.  The game also offers no explanation whatsoever about damage types, especially the difference between Bounce and Fall, although I managed to trial and error my way through that.  (Bounce damage is applied when a character/object Falls on top of another character/object in the target square; damage is dealt to both the projectile and the target but mostly to the target, and the projectile moves to the next square in line where they try to land again.)  I was also annoyed by the way that the third objective only unlocked after playing the mission once; I'm generally a completionist, though for the most part I am skipping replaying missions for the third objective because once you get a solid loadout on Diona, Nephele, Brass, and Scylax, there isn't any incentive for leveling.  (There's such an unexpected number of unique missions with the branching that I'd rather do new fights instead!)

Overall, I don't know that I'd recommend it for hardcore tactics fans looking for difficulty and complexity, but everyone else should give this a try.  The game feels like a solid hit both with gameplay and story, with luscious art as a bonus.  Well done.
