baxil rated Nina Aquila: Legal Eagle, Chapter III: "Legal Stage"

baxil rated a game 5 years ago
A downloadable game for Windows.

Came for the Phoenix Wright-esque courtroom drama, stayed for the many other ways that the series pushes genre boundaries into entirely different and still engaging experiences.  This not only knows what makes the original courtroom games fun but also when to deviate from the formula.

It is not a particularly long nor particularly difficult game -- but the game's strength is not in its difficulty but its presentation, and it's got a solid enough core that it's refreshing to see it try to make that as accessible as possible. (Indeed, it offers a number of thoughtful accessibility options -- including one that lets you turn off the ability to fail the racing scenes, and some for photosensitive players that I rarely see elsewhere.)

A courtroom game like this lives and dies on its writing, which makes it all the more satisfying that the writing is solid and the characters memorable. The central mystery fit together well and didn't feel unfair after the reveal, and the process of digging down to it was a blast.  Recommended.
