Yvonne rated Starmaker Story

Yvonne rated a game 27 days ago
A downloadable game for Windows.

One of the best life sims out there.
I've always loved this genre but only awhile ago I stumbled on this space of games hiding in itchio this entire time. I tried some games and they were about what I expected from unfinished games, but when I played Starmaker I was blown away. It became my new addiction, I was up in the dead of night just going day by day, completing quests and getting closer to get Josef out the picture.

I love the story, you're going broke now you need to make as much money as fast as possible. It's simple but Starmaker does it the best, I've seen games where this is just a side quest, you make 3 videos AV's with a character and that's it, you get paid by rewatching them. The geniuses at Arvus Games decided lets make that the entire game.
There's also mini games. I honestly believe the secret to a healthy game is good mini games, and not alot of devs do that. I want to play a knock off Papa's Pizzeria in my lewd game. In Starmaker they have a handful of them, one of my favorites being a tower defense and a turn based battle sim.

The only way they can get away with this story is the world building.
This is my favorite part about Starmaker, it's not just you and your family that are adult, It's the world. Starmakers aren't in the depths of the internet like our OF models, they're celebrities, they're shown on the news, even the news reporter is on Starmaker and actively advertises that platform. Being a Starmaker is a career in this world.
There's some real writers at Arvus Games (at least I hope they're real since they used AI art) They know that the fun of making a world is putting all your fetishes in it, and they're all at forefront. Monsters, futa, femboy, huge tits and ass.
Speaking of tits and ass, the art is amazing, everyone is beautiful. It's not just Anna that has huge curves it's her friend, the store clerk, your coworker, and everyone at the beach, I don't like when games only make the people you're around unique like some nsfw stand users. Everyone has huge curves and beautiful faces, it makes the world feel full and natural. You see random npc's talking about something happening and all you can think is "I wish they become a regular character".
To address the AI stain in this game. I wish it was all made creatively by artists but it's not. The game still turned out great and I highly recommend it.

Time for negatives, very few of them.
Literally in the very beginning, the animation NEEDS to be skippable it takes wayy too long, and on top of that, the naming at the start is confusing. There's like some sort of translation error because I didn't understand what any of it meant, there's like a strange formality to the wording that isn't anywhere else in the game, only in the introduction. Because of that I kept restarting trying to find the right names and labels for everyone and in the end I didn't like what Anna called me. That was a consistent issue in my play through. It was clear these characters are supposed to be my family yet the default options don't tell you that.
Anna's default label is MILF. During my play through I called Anna 'Auntie' because it was a familiarly neutral term, nothing told me she's my Mom besides the M in MILF, so I decided to be safe with Auntie because it can mean a literal aunt or a really close friend. Adrian's default label is buddy and Josef's is uncle. I was tired of coming up with neutral names after the 5th restart so I left them, and the dialogue turned out bad. Adrian is clearly my brother why am I comforting him by saying "You're my buddy it's ok" like I'm some South Park Canadian. And Anna, through out the game your relationship with her is judged and it really pulls me out when people say "Auntie" like it's seriously taboo. By giving us an option to change labels it made me think the writing was going to be seamless but no, it only showed that any unique labels that aren't family related are wrong. The main issue is the default labels are also wrong.

Second issue is the secret gameplay mechanics.
I wish they weren't so secret. Like the corruption route/romantic route of Anna. I like the idea and makes the game unique but I don't like having to read the official google sheet to unlock stuff. Also I saw in big text a warning to not rush through the story or you'll miss stuff. That's exactly what I did on my own before finding the sheet. I feel in this situation the player needs to be lead so they can experience everything before ruining it themselves. I'm pretty sure I've encountered a couple bugs because I'm hyper focusing on one characters story so much that it breaks other stories.

3rd thing. The importance of dressing up.
I saw all the outfits along the description and was disappointed you can't have Anna wear any of those regularly. I could be wrong because I haven't finished the game in it's entirety but I'll get to that in a second. I was hoping the wardrobe would introduce this feature but all the outfits I got were for shows only. I really wanted to see her gradually wear riskier clothing and slowly stop returning the ones from the boutique. It would also be great to see her wear different things in the kitchen and car scenes. Also it just makes more sense if you go the sharing route with Josef and Adrian.

Secret 4th thing is, I don't like the mc being a beefcake.
Bro is ript and tall but I would've wanted to be a wimpy guy (the closest to androgynous as possible in a straight game) To be blunt, I wish I was River not the buff guy in the bathroom mirror.

The reason I haven't finished my play through is after some digging I saw that THE. GAMES. NOT. FINISHED. In the amazing state that it is, there's still one more huge update coming. I stopped playing so I can fully enjoy the finished game. That also explains some of the empty stories in the game. I plan on starting a new save with everything I've learned (and the REALLY IMPORTANT GOOGLE SHEET) I seriously loved this game, it's one of a kind. Thank you for reading and for all the hard work Arvus Games ♥

Some of my wishes for this game are:
- Having the option to dress up Anna
- A choice of physic for the mc (so I can rival River)
- Better music in the radio
- Hints for secret objectives
- Most importantly, they continue updating the game beyond the upcoming update for all these wishes to happen.
