Stella rated The Game Where You Let People Starve

A browser manifesto made in HTML5.

hey i really liked this piece! my one minor complaint is that the music blasted my ears off and i had to lower the volume every time the music changes track for some weird reason

i've thought the same (vaguely) about farming games too (despite not having any agricultural background and having hated nature quite hard growing up as an autistic individual who kept being forced by school into weird nonsense) possibly because I was raised in One Of Those Countries That Was Colonised By The Europeans Where They Massively Harvested Plants, Sugar, Pelt (particularly deer), Trees (So Many Fucking Trees), Camphor, Rice, Cotton, Hemp, Wheat, Ginger, Tobacco, ... And Also Fished A Shitton and an entire semester of history class was about European colonisation and the damages they've done (which is, realistically, way too complex to ever list out. I mean the native species of deer almost went extinct by the 1960s even though the Europeans left before the 1700s)

uh, anyway. i've thought vaguely about this with farming games too and i just never understood the appeal of a "cosy rural life" because to me, rural life is nothing cosy at all, and i'm a city kid, and i never dreamed of "moving down to the rural area" because it's just a dream run by capitalism.

relatedly, a game called Grimshire popped into my view 2 days ago, I wonder if you've been told about that yet :P
