The scenario in this fan game has a similar "realistic tendency toward tragedy" to the source material, which makes it readily plausible as a meaningful epilogue to ending 006 (which has a double-edged open-endedness that encourages fans to seek out their own conclusion). I appreciate that the central theme is the struggle to acccept one's flaws and learning to live with imperfection/mistakes - this was an idea which was vaguely suggested in ending 006 but which I rarely see featured in post-006 fan works, despite its setting being so amenable to character development. I personally enjoy stories with bittersweet romance, and this fan game had no shortage of tragic elements to satisfy that.
