MogsK rated Null Resonance

A downloadable game.

The mech really was the highlight of this one. The controls felt pleasingly restrictive, and it cultivates a good sense of comfort being in the cockpit safe from the cold, making the moments leaving it feel all the more nerve-wracking. However, this never really seemed to be leveraged for anything.

After the first stretch, I didn't feel like anything was going to get me when I ventured outside the mech suit which eventually caused the sense of safety/danger when entering and exiting the suit fade. While there were a couple effective jumpscares, I was anticipating something more, like some sort of threat materializing while venting the power core or rewiring one of the relay fences, but when it became clear nothing was going to happen, it drained a lot of the tension out of the experience.

I thought the ending area was cool, but I'm a sucker for megastructures and meat spaces, and while I did like being able to choose to be absorbed (at least I think it was a choice, didn't try to escape), it felt disconnected from the mech segment which was the one thing that made the game feel special.

Still, as a short horror game, it was fun! Loved drinking so much coffee while playing Simon Says, really helped me get into my role as an overworked...whatever it was my job was meant to be. Very excited to see more.
