I've been enmeshed in digital culture since I was a preteen, so nothing in this was technically new to me, but I really liked the presentation and it clarified some of my own thoughts on the topic! I really liked the way you linked all these threads with evidence ranging from essays and articles to tweets. I've had conversations with friends about this in the past, and they keep getting stuck on the details. Having it all laid out like this makes for a compelling case that the process of hollowing out the internet and digital culture has been going on for a while and is a direct consequence of tech capitalist interests if not the actual goal. I remember forcing a discussion of the importance of net neutrality into an Arabic class presentation way back when, and things have only degraded since.
If I had one thing to critique, it would be that I think the linear nature of it and the fact that you can't replay or review the voice over lines disincentivized me from clicking on links and reading through them because I was afraid of losing context. This might've worked better as a website that you can browse in a non-linear fashion at your leisure, with different points linking back to others. But, I do understand the format is necessary to make your point about asset flips and you do a good job of explaining the type of software you've been making and are encouraging others to make.
I read Olia Lialina's Turing Complete User essay a few years ago, and I'm continuously struck by how much more true it becomes every year. My generation of computer-literate, tech-literate, website surfing peers have been losing these skills and a lot of it comes from these tech companies intentionally "simplifying" and "streamlining" experiences to the point that you cannot understand what the computer is doing, or even if it's doing what you actually want it to do. I really appreciate experiences like this that confirm I'm not alone in this feeling.
