With the most recent updates, this game is REALLY good for a smaller Jam game. It has some really solid space shooter gameplay. Took me about 20 Minutes to complete the game and snag the victory.
The gameplay loop was the best part! Constantly looting enemies before beginning the next wave just to upgrade between was really fun.
The presentation isn't much to write home about, but within its simple nature, its still easy to read and understand everything. The music was pretty solid as well, fitting the atmosphere well. Upgrading your ship can be really fun and effective, though the scatter shot is pretty useless unfortunately. Too short of range and too little damage. Gotta fully invest into the sniper shot if you wanna win, and once I found that out, winning was just a matter of time. This game had a decent amount of variety with the enemies, so that was super nice to see, even if the smallest enemies are the most annoying! Its like dealing with an actual fly, I just want to swat them away.
Some critiques I have revolve mostly around a few of the systems in place and the all relate to each other. At the start of every wave, you have arrows giving you the general location of each enemy. This is really helpful, but soon after the disappear. I feel an older version of the game had the arrows always sticking around when an enemy was off screen. I prefer when the arrows stuck around, as it prevented me from just running straight into a barrage of shots and damage. Behemoth was a big contributor to that, having both powerful spread, and some powerful ranged shots. I appreciate the challenge, but I also didn't feel fully equipped to handle Behemoth. The initial gameplay showcase of Behemoth shows the camera slightly zoomed out a bit more, which makes it much easier to read and react, but currently, I don't know where Behemoth is until he starts shooting everything he has, which the ship isn't always fast enough to avoid. Roaming around is dangerous when you can lose all of your Hp so quickly. Honestly, if the camera was zoomed out a bit, It really wouldn't be a bit deal.
overall, really solid game here. Has some decent polish on it and shows there was a real effort to flesh out the general concept. Great work 4/5
