Basilisk 2000 always caught my eye browsing Itch as I found the game's premise interesting, and now that I finally have gotten around to play through it, I would say it's a great recommendation for those interested in meta horror. The way the graphics and sound are handle does make this feel like a game a bygone era. I also like seemingly most of the NPCs don't have "proper textures," placeholders that never gotten removed with ones that have human features or details. It does make good use of it's dev tools that while theoretical you could easily get the games "ending" blindly and enough lateral thinking, the way the present game world sets up it's connections to other locations make it so the player is more inclined to follow these branches, and learn more about the game's settings. I will say that while it is best to go through this game blindly, I feel like some secrets won't be obvious to first time players so for the first playthrough go through as much of this game as you can blind, then if you feel like you have reached a dead end, it's okay to watch a video or an article about the secrets and locations you might have missed.
