Pink Narcissus rated Graven

A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android.

So, Graven is a well-written and touching story about loss, presented through pretty greyscale art with specks of colour that reflect the themes.

And it'd be nice to talk about that, but partway through, it got difficult to really appreciate these things after learning AI was used as a tool to 'streamline' the art process. Which... kinda confused me at first, seeing how the splashscreen when starting the game is a giant 'WE DO NOT CONSENT TO ANYTHING IN HERE BE USED FOR AI TRAINING'???

Reading through the post about it, it is admittedly in large (but not only) the less vexing use of it, like telling an AI to do lineart from a photo and then the painting is done by the artist. But I just fail to see what the point of this is even is. The artist is clearly very skilled and the lineart is minimal as is. At that point, just do a drawover - because the only thing getting streamlined is shattering any positive impressions I had for the game.

This woulda been an easy 5 star, but Grok gets to generate the missing ones I guess, because I'm not sure if I'd be basing opinions on something real or not. Idk, it's so weird, especially when the creator seems pretty negative towards AI in general? Hope there's a change of mind at some point though, the creator clearly has unique stories to tell!
