A downloadable game for Windows.

Absolutely lovely experience. After your review on my game some time ago, I was too flattered to write one on yours, but now I’m finally getting around to it.

I’ll have to admit, before I played the game, I was unsure how much I would enjoy something that looked like a reskin. Oh, how wrong I was.

The characters are very well written and re-designed. Not only do they perfectly match their canon counterpart and fill out any missing details, but their diverse interactions also feel very natural and comedic. Scenes of other fangames can at times feel like a bit of a drag mainly due to the author’s inexperience, but I never felt this way while playing through the alternative draw. Not only did each and every formally familiar scene bring a joy through surprising originality, the assets that were indeed different blended in very well, and their flavor text makes up for any small art style difference.

That also includes Rio. I have to admit, I struggle understanding his age. He does seem on par with Kai in the script, but his sprite looks like a teenager. However, this first impression is quickly overshadowed by the bond he displays with his brother, and the fracture through Midori’s scheming. I find it sad how little media I experienced showing a very strong bond between 2 male characters who are not romantically engaged. I’ve wished to make a sizeable media around it for quite some time now, but I’m afraid I will never have the chance. The Kei-Rio relationship seems to be such a “platonic” strong bond. If the game does indeed continue and cultivate it as a central aspect, then I would probably end up personally regarding the fangame higher than the original.

With that said, I think you can understand why I’m feeling confident giving this 5/5 stars, and that I’m looking forward to the next big update. If there’s anything I can help you with, like proof-reading the script, helping you with JavaScript or sound effects, let me know. I’ll be more than glad to help this hidden gem come alight!
