TheRealArma rated Shakai Seikatsu (18+)

A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android.

TL;DR: I think this is worth checking out. There's not a lot available, but what is there is worthwhile.

Honestly, it took me three tries to get into this game. With my last try being a couple years ago (Wow, been that long already? Where'd the time go).

I must say that I'm pleasantly surprised by this. I wanted to like this the first couple of times I played it but was just held back by something or another. Last time it was because mostly proofreading that I had trouble getting into things. I could still reasonably tell what was being said, but I had to stop to think about it. Admittedly, when I had originally commented with my list of issues I was a little worried that the things I pointed out wouldn't be addressed, changed/fixed (actual issues, not gameplay-wise opinion things), or even worse that my comment would be removed and I would be blocked for essentially shitting all over the project. Wasn't my intention, but I can totally see

But... That didn't happen. Instead I was thanked for bringing things to their attention and providing an additional perspective to things. I can tell that's true because the majority of things, if not everything I had commented on then was fixed or addressed. I even pulled up that comment and kept an eye out for things I had pointed out and, to my surprise, didn't find the same things as I pointed out then.

It's clear an effort was made to fix things, admittedly new things popped up in their place. But, if last time is anything to go by, I have confidence that they're going to be fixed.

That's enough about the dev(s), though. I should probably talk about the game a bit.

After completing most of the content available, I think the game is easily worth checking out. Although it can be a little grindy, I think it safely fits in the upper end of sandbox games. It generally takes about 5-6 interactions with someone to move onto the next event, which can all be achieved in 1-2 in-game days depending on whether or not you choose to buy energy or save it for other things.

The characters are all interesting enough and are all easily distinguishable from one another. You can easily tell who is who, and they each feel different from one another when you're speaking or interacting with them. Which seems like an obvious thing but you'd be surprised just how many games don't do that well, if at all.

There are elements to a "main" story, but it isn't fully fleshed out just yet. What *IS* there is interesting and makes me want to know more, though.

Honestly, I think the only critique I can come up with at the moment is that sometimes dialogue between characters is a little stiff. As in, sometimes a character is kind of speaking formally in a casual and friendly situation. Which isn't really a huge issue but it's the only thing that I can think of off the top of my head.

So, yeah. Looking forward to seeing more of this in the future!
