As much as I would like this game to be good, I cannot recommend it. Apart from having only a few instances of what most who find the game are so eager for early on, it also has a uniquely frustrating level design philosophy, one that fosters paranoia and distrust in the level design and game as a whole. So often do I find myself in a situation where I have inadvertently passed a point of no return, and immediately find myself frustrated that I cannot backtrack a single screen, or sometimes even a few feet back to where I was. Having to go two screens ahead to the cabin, and then warp back to the beginning of the area JUST to go back a single screen is ridiculous. As well, there are times where you are outright teased by the level design with collectables you can only get by IGNORING the level's very obvious cues to take new magic. Only for this same thing to be set up in the next area, except this you get screwed if you DON'T take it. Not to mention that these spells needed for traversing certain hazards or to get certain collectables are on a meter, which you CANNOT renewably recharge within a screen, as the potions necessary are unrenewable, and you have no way to procure a way to fuel said magic yourself. So even if you DID bring the right magic, you end up potentially getting screwed if you end up misusing it, which is very easy since the first magic turns the ENEMIES into rising platforms, making it TRIVIAL for the enemies to end up in the wrong spot, and you get screwed over.
I so wish I could enjoy this game but it's frustrations are too much to bear for too little to enjoy. I give it a 2 instead of a one because there is a certain charm to this game's visuals and characters, but that charm only makes the frustrations feel even worse.
