Kirk rated Flock 'n' Load

A browser game made in HTML5.

Such a fun and well carried out game! Let's get the negatives out of the way so I can get to the positives. The game didn't work for me in full screen, Like it loaded and everything seemed to scale to my monitor size (3440X1440), but none of the buttons were registering being clicked with their actual active click areas being far away from the UI of the button, due to I assume the visual and the logic area of the button scaling differently. I would have much preferred the game limit the scaling to an area where all the UI elements worked as planned instead of allowing it to scale to a point where it was buggy. The music was pleasant but the sound effect while boosting was really loud and obnoxious to the point where it drained out the rest of the games sound, even on the lowest possible volume setting, which was a bit annoying as I found boosting a majority of the time was often times the better way to play so the sound effect was on constant replay. The game also became, in my opinion, way too hard to die if you could get passed the initial few seconds of a run, to the point where reckless playing was not punished at all, but once again this might come as a positive to others and is just personal opinion but a difficulty slider would be much appreciated! Now onto the positives, the game is beautiful. From the menus to the gameplay background, the effects when restarting and ending a run and everything in between. It felt like there was some real thought put into each and every thing that will be displayed on the screen and it really elevates the playing experience!! The range of music was also very refreshing as it wasn't just the same 8bit loop which drives you crazy and actually complimented the gameplay in a really nice way! The theming of the game was also constant with not one screen making you think "This feels out of place" or like it was reused from a different project, everything feels like it was made to be HERE. Game was also extremely polished with me being unable to find any gameplay issues aside from the 1 mentioned above which is a pleasant surprise for a game jam game! All in all, an amazing game in terms of quality and design with some slight flaws that don't detract from the overall experience, can't wait to see what comes next!!!
