Heliosail is more "traditional" than the games I usually play these days, but it has some really fun ideas that I haven't seen much of before. I particularly like the way skills give you, essentially, "special abilities" for ranking them up, which is an idea I don't think I've ever seen in a published game, and which results in really interesting character customization opportunities.
Similarly, the approach to travel as a sort of "downtime" with required activities is really entertaining, and a fun approach to long journeys.
My only complaints are the lack of GM guidance and starting adventure -- I don't really have a firm handle on what play is supposed to "look like" or what the PCs do, so some examples would have been really helpful there.
