I am so pleasantly surprised that Sunrise Fang is more than just a pretty face. The presentation is really strong, but its greatest feat is enhancing a pretty solid story that's perfectly scoped for a game jam while leaving plenty room for the imagination.
Weaknesses are few and understandable. For example, the otherwise very faithful pastiche of SNES-era Final Fantasy battle screens I found came off slightly weakened by somewhat lacking attack animations (they're there, but could've been stronger). Sprites jumped out at me for their lack of expression—beyond what I think is an unnecessary "open-mouth-to-signal-talking"—and shading, which made them look unfinished in the face of how polished every other visual element is. However, as I said from the top, these are minor complaints that make total sense to have been excluded from the scope of a game jam version. Presentation-wise, for every misstep, there's at least one detail to make up for it.
I just really enjoyed this one. The story is engaging, writing offers a smooth experience and the presentation is pretty much perfect. I urge everyone to try it out.
