CookieJar rated STICKER/BALL (Demo)

CookieJar rated a game 360 days ago
A browser game made in HTML5.

Great audiovisual design, but the lack of agency presented to the player (both in the fact that only 3 stickers can be chosen every turn, and the fact that a sticker is forced every turn) makes this a lot less of a strategic, intentional deck-building roguelike like Nubby's, and it's a lot more of a "just pick the best option out of the 3 every time" kind of game. It's a lot more about the microdecisions rather than the macrodecisions in that sense. Once you get past like 20 rounds, the game becomes pretty mindless, as you quickly find out that going for the most optimal shot almost always provides more value than a mere 15% extra for deviating away from the optimal line/s. Agency is prohibited, and in the few times it is given, it's hardly rewarded. Cute game, and very well made, but design-wise, it's likely not something I'll be coming back to frequently.

If you want suggestions, perhaps try looking for ways to give the player the ability to somehow edit their build between rounds, or maybe have a "shop" system every, like, 3 rounds. It might not be easy to balance, but let me tell you, even having a very rudimentary system like that can keep this game from being so droning. Of course, there are a myriad of ways to address that fact, and I'm excited to see the various creative ways you may come up with for that. I'm definitely following the development of this game, I think it shows a lot of promise. Best of luck!
