Ever Our Hearts Aglow is 'a new DARK, PSYCHOLIGICAL, furry visual novel (literature) from the twisted mind of my (the developer's) own mind'.

And while it may be the most fun time I have had with a FVN - the shitpost writing is masterfully crafted to pull off its aesthetic, being legible, and screenshottably funny at all times - there is some truth to the 'dark,  psycholigical' (I trust the dev's spelling) aspect. The themes of abuse are presented through comedic surrealism, yet when that presentation is pulled back one can see a protagonist who is emotionally vulnerable and battered into harmfully low self-esteem. I also want to note that the emotional core of the story - the protagonist's bond with his sister - feels genuine and sincere.

What came to mind playing this was how it is quite like the 'My Immortal' (of Ebony Dark'ness Dementia Raven Way fame) of FVNs. 'My Immortal' is written to reflect the fan-fiction demographic at the time; depressed teen girl who feels alienated from her peers. "I'm not like other girls", she may think, and escapes into worlds of fiction with girls who are also not like other girls. (We are all Other Girls). 'Ever Our Hearts Aglow' reflects what I feel may be a large part of the FVN demographic in the same way. Gay (depressed) person that struggles with self-esteem, so desperate for some kind of affection they may put up with things they shouldn't have to put up with. (We are all Gay Depressed).

I may also be reading way too much into things. Regardless of the depth therein, this piece of Literature TM is a very fun time and you should play it. But heed the warning on the game's page... it is a 'tour de forest that leads one's own psyche down pathways better left undsiturbed...?'
