Polar Opposites is an enjoyable story with fun and snappy dialogue, high stakes drama that doesn't feel too high stakes (personally, I enjoyed this aspect), and heartfelt moments between our characters.
In the area of audiovisuals, this is perhaps the jammiest of the Novembear Jam games; incorporating a lot of the the freely available assets in some capacity. Does this mean that the game doesn't have custom art? It has custom art in spades! The puffin sprite has been altered to be a penguin, and the space suits are of course added to them as well (particular attention may have been paid to the... midsection, hihi). These alterations are relatively seamless, and it honestly made me forget that it was the jam sprites at times. There's other custom sprites that are presented through in-game screens, which made the differences in art style a lot less jarring. (There a few occasions with accidental incorrect use of sprite states, but I'm sure these will be fixed and they don't detract markedly from the experience.)
There's plenty of drawn backgrounds; all working cohesively and fit the vibe of the game. I also loved that there were a bunch of lighting effects that interacted both with the environment and the sprites. I will note that there is a section early on that uses flashing lights. It does look really good; I just couldn't see how good it looked for too long before becoming dizzy :P (My recommendations would be to make the flashing animation a lot slower - or adding an option in the settings to replace that scene with a still image if toggled.)
I've already mentioned mentioned a bit about the story and writing. I think the dialogue was the highlight, whereas certain parts of the narration had a few issues - particularly where there was a tiny bit of confusion between 1st and 3rd person, and certain parts felt perhaps too lengthy. Aside from that, it's well written and a good time to read! (It also made me curious to play something from the creator that wasn't made under time pressure.)
In conclusion: after a bit of polish, an already great game will be even better. Definitely has comfort game potential :D
