Rosa Carbo-Mascarell rated One Night Stand

A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux.

Not the first time I've seen a game set after a one night stand. It's an interesting topic though I would like to see the game designers do something more personal with it.

My main issue was with the characters and story. The story starts out well by raising questions but the act of finding out answers needs to be much more satisfying. I'm not surprised at what I find and the conversation turns are too predictable. Study Gone Home for story reveal done well through objects.

The characters need to be much more engaging both in what they say and they way they deliver the sentences. I don't feel a personal attachment to either the character I'm playing or the girl mainly due to her body language and facial movements. They need to feel and look much more human. Perhaps something to look into while you develop this further.

In terms of gameplay, not being able to check out everything the first time is a wonderful premise. The second time around I'm eager to check them out but find myself pressing the fast forward button too much which becomes disengaging. This also ties in with the fact that the pacing of the text is too slow and full of fluff. Every word needs to tell me something new and engaging. Consider cutting it to a half of what exists now.

With the theme, I'd try to think a little deeper about what it means to have a one night stand. What are you trying to express with this game? Find that theme and express it through every aspect of the game, from the story through to the mechanics and the UI.

Overall, it's an amazing start and while I have been pointing out a lot of negatives, I'm doing so in the hopes that it will be useful to you in making this a truly outstanding game. Good luck!
