STUN-STUN-STUNNING!
Things I liked:
The art style! Rachel did an absolutely AMAZING job with the art! This is some of her older work, but it's still a real treat to look at! I really like the border, the nightmare scenes, and the color pallet! This game is eye-candy!
The story is excellent! I love morally grey characters and everybody here is flawed in their own ways. Some more than others, and I love Vincent! He's very complex and you get creepy vibes from him that grow and grow, I actually didn't do anything out of the ordinary my first playthrough because I was scared he would yell at me lolololololololool. Also, I love how the story unfolds in some of the endings, it all makes sense and wasn't all that predictable!
The FORESHADOWING!! AAHH I love writing so so much, and every little bit of foreshadowing is greatly appreciated. The strawberry shortcake rat on Day 4, Vincent's friends, the cutscenes themselves, the nightmares, everything was thought out and makes my heart soar.
I can go on and on about this game, but I need to stop myself here or else I'll be here for the rest of eternity.
Things I disliked:
The Chef mechanics, which is really a shame! It's really fun to see this type of minigame within RPG maker, but I feel like it doesn't really work. I was able to 100% the game, miss my quota once, and all without any powerups ( I missed it when looking around the apartment, I really wish the catalogue was more noticeable :(( ) but it didn't feel good to play. The tile system in RPG maker ends up feeling clunky, you don't stop when you take your finger off of the arrow keys, and when every second counts, it tends to be frustrating. When you're running / have the roller skates on, everything is cramped so it feels like you're tripping over everything. Excellent idea, just wish it was executed differently!
The Beginning. When I first started the game, I was enchanted by the art style, but ended up being extremely confused during the tutorial. I don't know if there's a way to add temporary sprites in RPG maker, but little arrows pointing to where you have to go would have been SUPER handy. I got the hang of it, and enjoyed trying to revise my strats, I just wish the beginning wasn't so rocky.
Clarity. What you're supposed to get other endings is VERY unclear and seems almost random? I would have enjoyed the game much more if it felt like I was discovering these things on my own, the only cutscene I got on my own was the Day 3 cutscene, and I was too scared to talk to Vincent after that ;n;! Making interactable things more noticeable, giving Rody a reason to talk to Vincent after the Day 3 cutscene, or just really any pointers would have helped exponentially. The only reason why I checked the game page again was because I KNEW there was something more I was missing.
TLDR; PLEASE PLAY THIS GAME!!! None of the characters are even remotely boring, everybody has genuinely complex reasons for everything that they do, and it's all so pretty to look at. Despite everything, it's probably one of my new favorite games, and I will be drawing it for the next 2 weeks.
