One of the earlier incarnations of Space Aces: TNG describes it as "A galactic sandbox RPG set in a Saturday Morning cartoon universe," and that's the best description for this game. Sure, you can invoke inspirations like Futurama or Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, but understanding that this game is cartoony fun is, in my experience, essential to having a good time playing it. The random tables seem to resist a grimdark approach--it's more Guardians of the Galaxy than Firefly, even.
We played a GMless one-shot with it, and for all the random tables we rolled on, our session had great cohesion. This game is a blast. If you're not playing it, you need to be asking yourself why you aren't.
Highly recommended for anyone who wants some crazy SF goodness without all that hard SF getting in the way of your technofantasy razzle dazzle.
