captainstupids rated Trapped Together Part1

A downloadable game for Windows and macOS.

Above average. The effort that went in is apparent.  I think there are a few things that could be improved in order of decreasing importance:

  • Most importantly: Mouse speed really should be adjustable. I can do a 1080 with a small move of my wrist, and controlling the look direction is really difficult.  Turning mouse sensitivity to the lowest on my computer makes menuing unpleasant, but keeping it at a normal speed makes aiming hard.
  • It would be great if the game was a self-contained executable instead of having to install it.  Even just doing a zip of the resources would save a lot of trouble.
  • Walk speed could be higher, or default to running with walk as a toggle instead.  Holding shift to run makes things fast enough, but it gets a little old to have to keep holding it.
  • Lastly, and least important: The story is unforgivingly linear.  Being forced to go through all the different options before taking an action takes away some agency.  If I find a screwdriver in a drawer, let me pick it up.  If I want to skip over someone's plot line and go into the basement, it would be nice to be able to do that, rather than forcing me to finish everything before going downstairs.  I know that's a big thing to ask for, given that it makes programming more complex, but without being able to make choices it's effectively a movie that you need to pixel hunt to advance.

But criticism aside, I've really enjoyed it so far. It's complete and, despite some frustrations, enjoyable.
