Pseudonymous Gamer rated Doki Doki Literature Club!

A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux.

(I downloaded this game from Steam but wanted to review it here as well.)

This game was recommended to me by a friend. In other words, I've been recruited into the DDLC fandom and I have no plans to escape. I've played the game through twice now, and each playthrough just offers more and more tiny details to discover. This game is excellent, even if Team Salvato never releases the oft-teased sort-of sequel. DDLC stands on its own as an excellent meta horror experience.

Although I know too much about Ren'Py to entirely embrace the fourth-wall breakages. Having tinkered around with Ren'Py myself, I know the capabilities and the limits of the game engine, and quite frankly there's no way a certain character could have done the things they said they have. I think I'm meant to assume that these characters were plucked from one digital reality and put into this one, but... You can't copy/paste code from one engine into another and expect it to work.

Maybe I unfortunately just know too much about game design to refrain from nitpicking some of the finer details there.
