JackitK rated KilaFlow (SAGExpo 2025 DEMO)

JackitK rated a game 1 year ago
A downloadable game for Windows and Linux.

There's a lot I like about this game, but there's something about the controls and level design that is not clicking with me and making me more frustrated the more I play.  When it flows well it's real fun. But there's a lot of times that lack of flow. World 1 is incredibly difficult for being what I presume is the tutorial. And the worst part is that I can tell that wouldn't be the place if I understood the controls better.

I think it was at level 4 where things really start falling apart for me.  I don't understand exactly how the air boost works no matter how often the game explain it. Which left me struggling way more than I should in level 5.  I struggled real hard just to get past the first set of platforms. I'm told to press the boost button after I bounce off something but half the time it doesn't work. I don't get what I'm missing. It happened so much, I got on that part the tutorial character got mad at me. I assume it was supposed to be funny, but because I was already frustrated, it just stressed me out more. There has to be something I'm missing but it just feels like it randomly decides when it works and doesn't.

There was also some platforms that I personally felt were way too narrow for a beginner level.  Like the horizontal pillars in level 3, they just feel too skinny to me to get onto to normally, let alone at full speed.

I hate being so negative because from the first two levels alone I felt like I could really love this game with some polish and better understanding of the controls. It has nice music and visuals. The concept is neat. The concept of the skin alts is neat. I think the techy wireframe one is my favorite. It seems like the level design should be good, but something just isn't clicking with me. The button layout doesn't even seem to be bad, I think just some quirks from early development.  I'll try it again later and see if I can find a more constructive way to express my qualms, but I figured this was a start.  Best of luck with everything.

Edit:

Yeah, I played the game from World 0 now that I'm aware that exists and my gameplay went much better. There's still some things I'm struggling with, like Flowjump and 1-6 with the tiny moving platforms you have to vertically jump between but overall its alot smoother.
