Honestly, i think you have a done a very good job of balancing  the facets of your story. Especially, i think the way you use the length of the begining to guide the reader is quite well done. My only (small) caveat is the final scene. On one hand, the end is a bit abrupt. On the other hand, everything was more or less already said ^^ 

All in all, very nice work. I need to recover now XD.
