SachiTechless rated Absolutely Perfect Specimen

A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux.

So I want to get my biggest gripe about this game out of the way first. The text was delivered in chunks that were way too big all at once that it was a bit too verbose to read at times. I don't know if it was the font choice or the size or something but it just felt a little difficult to read. I think the text bulk worked in the tenser moments as you're sitting there processing what's going on while you feel just as uncomfortable as Pan, however in the earlier moments, the text could have been broken up a bit more I feel to make it easier to parse information.

Otherwise, this was a terrifying, disturbingly brilliant game about control, abuse and how it can mold you as a person. The kind of timid person who has been subject to years of abuse can turn you into without realising, the fear that comes from it, the way it slowly molds you until you lose everything that makes you you and you start wishing to become the person before all of this again. The art was haunting, the way similar scenes at the start and end changed in intensity as Pan's mental state deteriorated despite having read a little into the abuse already. I can't praise this enough for the short, intense story about someone who uses her trauma to traumatise another because she thinks she knows best, and it's something that I've seen happen to someone I used to care about, from the isolation from the world to the dependency, it was uncomfortably real.
