Mat Graysun rated Mechs Into Plowshares

A downloadable game.

This game is truly fantastic. Since this was my first time playing a one player TTRPG, I began the game with some skepticism. After reading the first page of play my skepticism vanished; after the third page of play I was hooked.

The strength of Mechs Into Plowshares  is that it gives the player a space to build a relationship with their character and their world. The author’s use of written prompts to build tension was effective and should be studied by anyone interested in making a one player TTRPG.

If the author isn’t a graphic designer, they must have hired one. The PDF pages are gorgeous. I would say that the imagery used in the pages adds to the tone of the story.

Maybe I’m just a sucker, but I have nothing bad to say about this game.

This paragraph is for the author, potential buyers of the game can skip to the last paragraph. Author, now that it’s just you and me, I’d like you to know that, because of some very specific personal reasons, this game resinated with me deeply. I think I know what kind of experience you intended the player to have and you hit the mark square in the center. Please keep making games.

BTW, I purchased this game after hearing about it on the RPG Design Friends podcast. So props to them for their good taste.
