Excellent and thoughtful. There is much care in the dialogue between these characters. They feel real, with a life behind them.
The story itself is haunting and rapidly declining. It's an awful feeling, really, seeing these events play out as an observer. 
I'd say the crime-solving aspect is really more of an excuse to make you hang to every word, as you should.
